Perchè sottovalutati?
Hanno un loro scopo specifico in registrazione, ed ancora di più nel parlato (radio, PA etc), ma per la riproduzione di un brano IMHO oltre a peggiorare la dinamica non vedo cosa potrebbe fare.
Aspetta, ma tu pensavi di usare un limiter o un expander?

Dai, oggi provo ancora con una chiavetta seria
Volendo il disco usb non alimentato si potrebbe provare a collegarlo ad un hub usb alimentato
Per l'installazione su chiavetta usb ci sarebbe un accorgimento per evitare di abbreviare la vita della chiavetta.
In /etc/fstab (file di configurazione del file system) bisognerebbe aggiungere l'opzione "noatime" ai file systems che risiedono su chiavetta ("/", il root file system ed evenutalmente altri). L'opzione "noatime" dice al kernel di non aggiornare la data/ora di ultimo accesso ai file, cosa che invece normalmente fa (a meno che non siano cambiate le cose di recente), questo eviterebbe degli inutili cicli di cancellazione/scrittura alle celle di memoria della chiavetta usb allungandogli la vita.
Un'altra ottimizzazione (generale, che non riguarda le chiavette) che si può provare, è quella di dedicare una partizione ai file musicali formattando il file system ext4 con blocchi da 1 Mb o 512 Kb, si spreca un po' di spazio ma la lettura da disco dei file ne guadagna in velocità (a partire da kernel 3.2, per i precedenti la block size massima per ext4 è di 4 Kb).

io lo ri-chiedo, ma perchè, in assenza di un client e di un server per la musica, vi impelagate con sto mpd?
se dovete usare il portatile come fonte, ha più senso usare un player + jack. li installate da repository, dovete solo configurare latenza di jack ed uscita esatta dal player ed avete finito, niente permessi, cartelle, log, ecc

a me purtroppo mi necessita MPD, perchè il pc che ho attaccato all'impianto è dislocato rispetto al pu nto di ascolto, quindi per godermi la musica dovrei utilizzare il portabili come client di MPD server del pc fisso attaccato all'impiantotino84 ha scritto:sta dicendo che la cartella /var/lib/mpd/state non esiste.

ls -al /var/lib (se rogna sui permessi sudo ls -al /var/lib)
ls -al /var/lib/mpd (idem)

"ln -s", con uno spazio in mezzo. "ls" è il comando "-s" è un'opzione.
E ci sono troppi spazi nei path delle directory
Prova così:
ln -s /home/carm/musica /var/lib/mpd/music/carm
avevamo creato un collegamento alla cartella /home/carm/musica
infatti una volta è partito , poi nisba

Non credo dipenda da quello. Per vedere se esiste il symbolic link :
ls -al /var/lib/mpd/music/
Comunque il file esiste /var/lib/mpd/state ed è di "proprietà" dell'utente "mpd" che ha i permessi sia di lettura che di scrittura. La riga che hai riportato nel log potrebbe essere un semplice warning e non un errore che impedisce a mpd di partire.
Per verificare il contenuto del file prova con:
cat /var/lib/mpd/state
Se hai problemi prova a lanciare mpd da terminale e vedi cosa ti dice:
sudo /usr/bin/mpd --stdout --no-daemon --verbose
Sperando che mpd sia installato in /usr/bin...
Se ti stufi di dare sudo ad ogni comando, con "sudo su -" diventi superuser fino a quando non dai il comando exit o chiudi il terminale (occhio però, che se dai un comando sbagliato rischi di rendere inutilizzabile l'installazione).

Non c'è "File Browser" ?
MPD lanciato da terminale come prima (--verbose, ecc) non dice niente ?

Ok, prova ad aprire un terminale e a digitare:
mpc ls
mpc listall
se non elenca i file che hai caricato prova a dare questo comando e poi i precedenti:
mpc update --wait
mpc ls
mpc listall
